Brad Langford has stepped down as the head coach of the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe baseball team.

Langford said he has decided to return to college to further his education, but he will remain at LFO as a teacher.

He said with his school obligations he elected to resign because the Warriors baseball program deserves more of a "commitment" from its leader.

"That was one of those dream jobs," he said. "It was a very difficult decision to step down, but I feel like the baseball program deserves 100 percent. With the strain and pride I take of doing everything 100 percent, I feel like I just can't give it at this time."

Langford, who has been with the LFO baseball program for six years, led the Warriors to the playoffs in the past two-of-three seasons as the head coach.

He said, "I loved every minute of coaching."

Langford said he was uncertain who would be the new baseball coach, but he will still be one of the Warriors' biggest supports.

"Whoever inherits (this team) is going to have a very strong program," Langford said. "The expectations are going to be to make the playoffs again."

Langford said he wanted to make it clear that he wasn't leaving LFO, and wasn't pursuing any other coaching positions at other schools.

He said he hopes he will be able to come back and "work with the program" when he finishes his master’s degree.
