The triple-threat scholar athlete was the school’s 2010 valedictorian and won the Region 6-AAA girls’ individual championship while leading her team to a fourth place finish at the state meet.
Shipley's accomplishments made her the first-ever Catoosa-Walker County Cross Country Dream Team Girls’ Runner of the Year.
Shipley capped her high school athletic career by leading the Lady Generals to the Class AAA Sweet 16 in soccer. She finished the season with 18 goals overall to add the title of this year’s Catoosa-Walker County Soccer Dream Team Girls' Player of the Year as well.
The captain and midfielder is the first-ever athlete to earn Player of the Year honors in two different sports, in the same season for Catoosa-Walker County.
Shipley said she is honored to be recognized for her achievements, but added she “couldn’t do anything without God and her teammates.”
“It’s more than I could ask for in my senior year,” she said.
Shipley was one of six seniors for Heritage, including Laura Patty (forward), Elizabeth Phelps (forward/midfielder), Bonnie Randall (defense), Emily Rebne (midfielder) and Lauren Gocke (forward/midfielder).
Lady Generals head soccer coach Stacey Pickens said Shipley was extremely deserving of the honor.
“She is the prime example of a student/athlete,” she said. “She was the valedictorian of her class and the heart and soul of our soccer team. She is an incredible person and an incredible teammate.”
Pickens said Shipley “always set the example with her actions.”
“She was very disciplined, motivated, and hard working,” the veteran coach added. “She always put her teammates first. Because of what Stephanie and the other 17 players on our team did on a daily basis this year, every Lady General that ever plays soccer at Heritage High School will try to live up to that.”
