LaFayette’s girls will be on the road for the opening round of the Class AAA tournament this week after a third-place finish at the region tournament in Cartersville.

The Lady Ramblers opened play with a 3-0 win over Central-Carroll before suffering a 3-0 loss to Cartersville.

But in the consolation bracket, LaFayette bounced back with a thrilling 3-2 win over Cedartown to earn a state berth and the No. 3 seed.

It marks the second straight year that the LaFayette girls have placed third in Region 6-AAA.

The Lady Ramblers and the Heritage Generals were the only teams from the North subregion to go on to state.

Cartersville’s girls won the region crown with Carrollton finishing second and Cedartown fourth. Heritage’s boys were fourth behind Carrollton, Cartersville and Cedartown.

The Lady Ramblers will play at West Forsyth on Thursday in the opening round.
