“We shot the ball pretty well,” said SHS coach Stephanie Caudell. “Defensively we put some pressure on them and got quite a few steals and turnovers, and we made a lot of layups.”
Jumping out early, the Lady Phoenix took a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and led 38-11 at the half.
“It kind of scares me when you get up early like that because you do seem to relax, but I think we did a good job keeping our intensity level high for most of the game,” said Caudell. “We played hard the whole game and I was proud of them.”
They continued to pull away in the third, outscoring Temple 15-7 for a 53-18 lead.
Lead Sonoraville on offense was Hannah Smith, who netted a game high 14 points.
“Hannah was really aggressive and that is the way we need her to play every night,” said Caudell. “She was aggressive taking the ball to the basket and when she was open she took shots.”
“We need her to shoot the ball when she is open,” added Caudell. “She also did a good job of running the floor and got her hands on the ball a lot defensively.”
Vicki Smith followed with nine points and both Alicia Ray and Noelle Defoor added eight apiece.
Celeste Lawson led the Lady Tigers with nine points.
Up next for the Lady Phoenix will be Armuchee on Saturday at 4 p.m.
“Armuchee is good offensively and defensively and they have several shooters. You can’t key on one person,” said Caudell. “You really have to be ready to play 32 minutes.”
“Defensively they do some things different than we are use to going against,” Caudell added. “We are going to have to be ready and will have to come out with confidence.”
