The Lady Phoenix basketball team topped visiting Adairsville Monday in a delayed Senior Night game.

Sonoraville jumped up to a huge 22-4 first half lead and would eventually go on to win 58-29.

The win was a big one, earning the Lady Phoenix a third seed for the upcoming region tourney.

“We did a good job of playing zone defense in the first quarter and then man-to-man in the second,” said SHS coach Stephanie Caudell.

Defense played a key role in the game as the Lady Phoenix shutout Adairsville completely in the second quarter, 11-0.

After coming out flat in the third quarter (16-3), Sonoraville refocused in the final quarter (22-9) for the win.

The Lady Phoenix had 10-of-11 players score in the game.

Leading the way for Sonoraville was Brittany Redd who netted a game high 14 points. Redd also added five steals.

“She played with a lot of energy,” said Caudell. “She plays with a lot of energy on the defensive end and that translates to her offense.”

The Lady Phoenix had four players score seven points. They were Hannah Smith, Alicia Ray, Kaley Vaughn and Noelle Defoor. Smith also had five assists and five rebounds. Ray added four assists and Vaughn had three steals.

Vicki Smith grabbed six rebounds and added four steals.

Emily Cole led the Lady Tigers with 11 points.
