The Sonoraville boys’ basketball team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to Chattooga Tuesday night.

“We came out and competed our tails off,” said SHS Head Coach Brent Mashburn. “We had kids step up and back plays in the fourth quarter and both overtimes and they had kids do the same.”

The Phoenix trailed by only one at halftime and by the end of the third quarter had taken a 37-33 lead. However, the Indians fought back with a 16-12 fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.

After and 8-8 first overtime, Chattooga managed to outscore Sonoraville 8-7 in the second overtime for a 65-64 victory.

“I am really pleased with the effort,” said Mashburn. “It was a tough one to lose but we learned a lot about ourselves.”

The Indians double-teamed Justin Zachary all night forcing other players to step up and make plays.

“They did some things to try to make it a tough night on Justin and we had some kids make some plays,” said Mashburn.

The Phoenix only turned the ball over 11 times in the game despite the loss. They were 16-of-29 from the line.

Adolphus Allen led Sonoraville with 14 points. Greg Mulkey followed with 13.

C.J. Morris scored 12 points and led the team with five assists. Zachary managed 10 points and three steals. Tucker Allen led the team with seven rebounds.

Chattooga’s Rashad Ramsey led all scorers with 20 points. Spencer London followed with 15.
