The Sonoraville Lady Phoenix defeated LaFayette 49-44 Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the Comcast Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Sonoraville took and early 16-13 lead after the first quarter but trailed by two points after the half. After playing even through the third quarter, the Lady Phoenix started sinking free throws and pulled ahead for the victory with an 18-11 final quarter.

Sonoraville’s Noelle Defoor led all scorers with 20 points, 12 of which came in the first quarter. Due to foul trouble she was benched for most of the second quarter, allowing LaFayette to get back into the game.

“We got off to a good start and we were able to get the ball into Noelle and she did a good job of putting the ball into the basket,” said SHS Head Coach Stephanie Caudell. “We did a good job of handling the pressure in the fourth quarter and we did a really good job of getting rebounds and hitting second shots.”

Defoor also finished the night with 12 rebounds and three steals.

Morgan Partlow added 11 points and eight rebounds. Hannah Smith grabbed seven rebounds and scored five points. Brittany Redd had five assists.

Partlow was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line in the final minute of the game. The Lady Phoenix hit 6-for-10 free throws in the final quarter.

Brittany Stallings led LaFayette with 12 points. Kelsey Byrd added seven.

Sonoraville will play Gordon Lee in the Championship Game at LaFayette at 7 p.m.
