Can the Coosa girls rebound from the loss of eight seniors? How will the Darlington boys replace leading scorer Tyshawn Good? How big of an impact will Monea Ware make at Pepperell?

Those questions, and plenty of others, will begin to be answered tonight when the first full night of prep basketball unfolds across Floyd County.

Armuchee, Coosa, Pepperell, Model and Darlington are all hosting doubleheaders, with girl’s games starting at 6 p.m., and the boys’ games following at 7:30 p.m.

The action will represent the season openers for the Coosa and Pepperell teams. It will also be the first game of the season for the Darlington boys. (The Lady Tigers opened the season last week in the Adairsville tournament).

Tonight’s schedule includes an intriguing in-county rivalry at Coosa, where the Eagles and Lady Eagles will play host to the Rome High teams.

Meanwhile, across town, the fans in Shannon will get to see Model newcomer Shaquille Calhoun in his M-Dome debut.

Calhoun, who transferred from Darlington, began his Model career in a big way over the weekend while playing in the SE Whitfield tournament. He had 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals in the Devils’ win over Mundy’s Mill, and was named to the all-tourney team.
