The Calhoun Yellow Jackets have been the No. 1-ranked team in Class AA for the past nine weeks.

But will they be a No. 1 seed for the state playoffs?

The Jackets (9-0, 6-0) will have a chance to earn that label this Friday night, when they host Armuchee in the Region 7-AA championship game.

Calhoun won the 7-AA North subregion title, and Armuchee took the South title.

The winner of Friday’s region championship game will be a top seed in the playoffs, and loser will be a No. 2 seed. Both teams will then host opening-round playoff games the following week, and will face the No. 3 and 4 seeds, respectively, from 6-AA.

Also this Friday, four additional local teams will be battling for playoff spots as Adairsville hosts Pepperell, and Chattooga hosts Rockmart.

The Darlington Tigers, who have already clinched the 6-A title, will host Trion.
