The defeat ended the Indians’ three-game winning streak and prevented them from completing an undefeated run through the subregion.
After the game, Armuchee coach John Mullinax said his players were “devastated,” and said that they will have to regroup quickly — physically and emotionally — this week while preparing to face No. 1-ranked Calhoun in the region championship game on Friday.
“As the head man of this team, it’s my responsibility to get them back up,” he said. “They are going to hurt (over this), but the bottom line is that … we’ve got to start getting ready for Calhoun.”
Despite the loss, Armuchee (7-2, 5-1) won the South subregion title by virtue of a tie-breaking procedure. (The Indians finished in a three-way tie for first with Pepperell and Rockmart).
Calhoun, meanwhile, clinched the North subregion crown by beating Adairsville, 34-0, on Friday night. It was Calhoun’s 67th consecutive win against region/subregion opponents.
The Jackets (9-0, 6-0), who advanced to the Class AA finals last season and finished as the state runners-up behind Buford, are seeking their ninth consecutive region title.

Ramming ahead
Whenever the Chattooga Indians have needed a big play this season, Rashad Ramsey has always seemed to make one.
Such was the case again Friday night, when he scored a pair of second-half touchdowns to help the Indians post a hard-fought 20-14 win over Dade County.
Ramsey broke free for TD runs of 55 and 60 yards. He put the Indians ahead on each occasion, and the second touchdown proved to be the game-winner.
Masterful
Coosa quarterback David Masters made certain that his final home game was memorable.
He completed 4-of-5 passes for 119 yards, including a pair of touchdowns, to lead the Eagles to a 40-12 win over Temple at Branch Bragg Field.
Masters hooked up with Seth Keith for a 42-yard score in the first quarter, and then found Coty Dodson on a 33-yard scoring play later in the period
Masters capped his night with a 50-yard TD run.
