"Carrollton is not only a great team, but they have a great program," Head Coach Mark Loudermilk said. "They bring the kids up through the ranks and put a good team on the field year in and year out."
The Trojans (8-0 overall, 3-0 sub-region) are ranked No. 6 in the Class AAA poll and have already clinched the Region 6-AAA, South sub-region title and will be playing Ridgeland for the Region 6-AAA championship next week.
But Carrollton’s dominance doesn’t stop there, as their junior varsity, ninth and eighth grade teams all went undefeated this season as well.
The game, which will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. at Grisham Stadium, will also be homecoming for the Trojans.
"We’ve just got to go and compete," Loudermilk said. "We are mostly playing for next year and for some pride. On film, Carrollton looks as big as normal and we know they will be well coached. We’ve just got to prepare hard all week and be ready to go all out for 48 minutes on Friday."
Cedartown (2-6, 1-2) will be facing a ‘50’ front on defense from the Trojans.
"That is what I expect them to come out in," Loudermilk said. "But we need to focus on ourselves more than anything. We’ve got to execute and block who we are supposed to."
Defensively, the Bulldogs will be seeing a more balanced Trojans' offense.
"They are still a wing-T team that features the jet sweep and fullback belly and trap plays," Loudermilk said. "But they will throw the ball this year. They have the ability to hit the big pass on you."
A.J. Barge is the signal-caller for Carrollton and he has thrown for 935 yards this season by completing 49-of-81 passes. He’s tossed 11 touchdowns to only one interception.
Marlandas Crane appears to be his favorite target, as he has hauled in 17 receptions for 364 yards and four scores.
In the backfield, four players look to share the load. Jared Cooley (73 rushes, 422 yards, five TDs) is the workhorse while Broderick Snoddy (49 rushes, 277 yards, one TD), Louis Hudson (40 rushes, 214 yards, three TDs) and Preston Brooks (40 rushes, 195 yards, three TDs) all get plenty of carries as well.
Not only will Cedartown be playing in a hostile environment this Friday, but they will also be playing on turf for the first time this season.
"We will be on turf but with my personal experience turf is very similar to playing on grass," Loudermilk said. "I don’t think it will play a role at all. Except that it probably will drain well if it is raining and that’s a plus."
Loudermilk’s team will be entering the ninth game of the season healthy, with only one player (Avery Privett) knicked up.
With the Bulldogs more than likely locked in as the fourth seed from the sub-region with no chance of playing in the region playoffs, Loudermilk knows his team must overcome the risk of just going through the motions this week.
"We need to come out and do our job," Loudermilk said. "The kids need to do what they are coached to do. We had two starters who didn’t show up to practice on Monday and gave no reason for not being there and that’s unacceptable."
