The subregion-leading Armuchee Indians wanted to set the tone early Friday night.

It took them two plays to accomplish that objective.

Davante Hudson broke loose for a 66-yard scoring run on the game’s second snap to give the Indians a running start on their way to a 49-12 win over host Temple in a 7-AA South contest.

It was the first of five first-quarter touchdowns for the Indians (7-1, 4-0), who led 36-0 at the end of the period. The Armuchee starters sat on the sidelines for the final 36 minutes while many of the junior varsity and ninth graders saw playing time.

The victory keeps Armuchee atop the 7-AA South standings. The Indians will face Rockmart next week with hopes of clinching a spot in the 7-AA championship game.

Armuchee overwhelmed Temple by amassing 405 yards of total offense, 359 of which came in the first half.

Avery Anderson had scoring runs of 14 and 50 yards, and Zack Payne added TD runs of 37 and two yards. Quarterback T.C. Boyd threw for 93 yards overall, including hooking up with Jake Nix on a 93-yard touchdown pass.

The Armuchee defense also shined, picking off three passes in the first quarter. Dennis Noles returned one of the interceptions 35 yards for a score early in the second period. Blake Poole and Jake Schmidt later added picks.
