After several weeks of sweat-soaked workouts, the prep football teams in Greater Rome are preparing to wrap up their spring practice sessions by conducting their annual intrasquad scrimmages.

Calhoun and Sonoraville will be the first to do so, as the Jackets and Phoenix will each hold their intrasqaud contests today.

The other local squads will follow suit either later this week or early next week.

The scrimmages will be a preview of next fall, and will allow fans — and more importantly, coaches — to get their first look at next year’s team in a game-type atmosphere.

“It’s a good evaluation tool,” said Pepperell coach Jeff Shiflett. “It gives you a chance to kind of see where you are at this point. … For coaches, the biggest benefit of the scrimmage is getting the players on film, and kind of going from there.”
