At the Class A girls' tournament at the Bartram Trail Golf Course in Augusta, Gordon Lee, the defending state champions, finished as state runner-up, adding to their decade-long run of success at the state level.
Senior Jorden Watson fired a team-low 86 and Rachel Mason carded a 90 for a team score of 176.
Danielle Watson finished with a 127 and Alli O'Neal shot a 128, but only the two lowest scores counted toward the team score.
Private school power Wesleyan, who dropped from Class AA to Class A this season, won the title with a 159.
"Well, we won the public school title," joked GL head coach Jared Willerson. "Seriously, I'm really proud of the girls, especially Jorden, our senior.
"This is the fourth straight time at the state tournament that she has shot lower than she did the year before. She shot a 101 her freshman year so to improve that much each year is incredible. She's a great young lady and we're going to miss her."
Gordon Lee has a pair of state titles, three state runner-ups, a third-place finish and a pair of fifth-place finishes at the state tournament so far this decade.
"I'm really proud of all our girls," Willerson added. "I'm looking for Alli and Danielle to improve a lot by next year and I know Rachel will bounce back."
LaFayette senior P.J. Shields became the school's first-ever individual medalist as he tied for first with a 69 at the Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro.
Spalding's Henry Mabbett was co-champion along with Shields.
"I played well and just had a really good day," said Shields, who birdied his first three holes on Monday. "Everyone was telling me up here that they though I'd be one of the favorites down there."
As a team, the Ramblers shot a 307, which tied them with Elbert County for third place overall in the Class AAA field. Burke County, the host school, won the title with a 304 while Woodward Academy was second just one shot back at 305.
C.J. Arnold finished with a 78. Daniel Vaughn carded a 79 while Chris McHugh's 81 rounded out LaFayette's team score. Brandon and Justin Wallin also played with each shooting an 87.
"We played really well," said LaFayette head coach Norm Hodge. "It came down to the last couple of holes. We thought we had a chance all week to do really well down here. It's been a good year for us. I can't complain."
Willerson tipped his cap to the local golf courses.
"What we and the LaFayette boys were able to do is a real credit to the local golf community for being able to develop players without a junior program," he said. "Eddie Jackson at the LaFayette Golf Course and the pros at Battlefield Golf Club do a great job of working with all of our kids."
Carrollton's boys finished 12th overall in the Class AAA tournament. The Carrollton girls placed 11th overall while the Cartersville girls finished 12th.
Former LaFayette golfer Jessica Welch shot a 76 to help lead the Franklin County girls to their second straight Class AAA state title.
