The bell to officially start the 2009 high school football season is still over a week away but teams have already lined up their first sparring partners.

Nearly two weeks after the official start of preseason practice on Aug. 1, Coosa will get things started by hosting Dalton for their scrimmage on Aug. 13.

The area will catch a small dose of Friday night fever on Aug. 14 as eight local teams hold their scrimmages.

The Rome Wolves that night are scheduled to help the Calhoun Yellow Jackets christen the new artificial turf at Phil Reeve Stadium.

Meanwhile, Pepperell will host Southeast Whitfield in Lindale, Armuchee travels to Gordon Central, Darlington is at Cedartown and Rockmart hosts Paulding County.

The next week will see Sonoraville make the trip to Dawson County on Aug. 20.

On Aug. 21, Chattooga and Trion will meet on a football field for the first time in 38 years at Trion’s Sam R. McCain Stadium.

Also that night will be Model’s scrimmage at Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe and Adairsville hosting Cass.

The regular season begins on Aug. 28.
