Lady Jackets split games in Tournament of Champions

Calhoun’s girls’ soccer team delivered a shutout and was the recipient of a shutout in the same day at Jekyll Island in the Tournament of Champions.

The No. 7-ranked Lady Yellow Jackets (7-3) won their first match of the day against No. 10 (AAA) Eagles Landing 5-0. They lost the second match, against Duluth, 1-0.

Danielle White led the Lady Jackets in the first match with three goals. Julia Binnicker and Breanna Pierce each scored a goal and Pierce had an assist. Kim Crawford and Jenna Joyave also had assists. Goalkeeper Nallely Topete got the shutout with two saves.

In the second match, Topete had three saves as the Lady Jackets held Duluth to only one shot on goal in the second half.

Calhoun remains on the road Wednesday visiting Armuchee.
