Hosting a slew of games at the Huffman Center — in a four-team match that consisted of Rome High, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, and Cass — the Lady Tigers went 3-0 in matches, and 6-1 in total games.
Head coach Briana Caldwell, a former local basketball standout at Model High and Berry College, and current assistant girls basketball coach, was excited and proud of her teams play.
“When we focus when we get on the court, we are tough to beat,” said Caldwell, “and we stayed focused and kept our composure all day.”
Even though they had some tight games, and one loss, the Lady Tigers showed great poise and determination in all their games, led by junior Carrie Simon and freshman Sammi Harton.
Simon showed her great defense abilities constantly, but mostly at the net using her height to her advantage.
Sammi Harton made some incredible plays, and even better serves, despite just being a freshman.
As for the Lady Wolves of Rome, the day was not as successful.
Rome often showed its inexperience and youthfulness throughout the day, but also showed talent by keeping games close and taking a few down to the wire.
The Lady Wolves went 0-3 in total matches, and 0-6 in games overall.
The Lady Wolves were by far the youngest team at the match, with no seniors on the roster, and only two juniors, with the rest of the team being made up of underclassmen.
Despite the outcomes of the day’s games, coach David Adams was encouraged with his teams play.
“The girls don’t give up ... we’re getting better every game, we just aren’t getting the wins,” he said.
Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and Cass both finished 2-1 in their matches, respectively. LFO went 4-2 in their games, having the second best record of the day.
The Lady Colonels of Cass went 3-4 in total games, with one on those victories coming against Darlington, being the only team to beat the Lady Tigers all day.

Rockmart defeats Alexander, falls to Hiram
The Lady Jackets went 1-1 against a pair of Class AAAA opponents at The Rock.
Rockmart defeated Alexander in a marathon three-set match to begin the evening to win 17-25, 25-7, 27-25 but then fell to Hiram 27-25, 25-21 as two close games turned into losses.
Megan Clark and Ann Enverga combined for 20 of Rockmart’s 25 points in the crucial second game against Alexander as the Lady Jackets (10-5) opened the set on an 8-0 run and took advantage of a string of missed serves to even the match up at one game apiece.
The two squads carried out a close battle throughout the final set before Alexander slipped up and gave up back-to-back points to give Rockmart the win.
Jada Lankford had eight points and a pair of aces in the third game while Haleigh Stocks and Carrington Ware each had three kills for the Lady Jackets.
Hiram opened its match with Rockmart with a 5-1 lead before a 9-1 run set the home team up with a 10-6 advantage.
But the Lady Hornets closed in on the lead and went back and forth with the Lady Jackets until a pair of costly mistakes gave them the opening set. Hiram continued to step up in the second game and took the match.
