New softball, volleyball coaches' polls are out

There was very little shake-up among the top-ranked softball teams in the state as the new PrepCountry.com softball coaches’ was released on Tuesday.

Four of the five No. 1 teams from last week remained in the top spots with the only change coming in Class AAAA. Union Grove replaced Jones County at the top while Jones County slipped to No. 2.

Unbeaten Gordon Lee remains No. 1 in Class A while fellow Region 6 member Excel Christian comes in at No. 6. Trion, No. 9 last week, fell out of the top 10 completely.

Buford held on to the top spot in Class AA, while Dade County dropped from No. 4 to No. 5. Despite losing 3-2 at LFO, Calhoun jumped from No. 7 to No. 6, leap-frogging LFO, who fell from No. 5 to No. 8. Rockmart slid from No. 6 to No. 9.

There was no change at the top of Class AAA as Oconee County stayed at No. 1, followed by Heritage. Allatoona stayed at No. 5 while Ridgeland dropped one spot to No. 9.

Northwest Whitfield fell out of the Class AAAA No. 10 while Collins Hill remained in the top spot in Class AAAAA.

The new volleyball coaches’ poll has only two local teams represented.

Heritage stayed at No. 7 in Class AAA while region foe Southeast Whitfield checked in at No. 10. Dalton, ranked No. 8 last week, fell out of the top 10.

The top-ranked teams this week remained unchanged with Blessed Trinity (Class A/AA), Woodward Academy (Class AAA), Pope (Class AAAA), and Walton (Class AAAAA) being tabbed for the top slots.
