The Rome High baseball might be inclined to believe more in the latter.
The Wolves, who had been forced off the field by the rainy weather in recent days, suffered a 16-1 non-region loss to LFO on Saturday at Legion Field.
Rome High coach Michael Dougherty said the rust from his team’s long lay-off was evident for the Wolves (3-3).
“I felt like the days off hurt us some,” he said. “We hadn’t seen live pitching in a game since last Monday — and today was a bad game for us all the way around.”
Stephen Gaylor, Austin Hall and Charlie Fisher finished with two hits each for the Wolves.
Three early errors by the Rome defense put the Wolves in a quick 3-1 hole, and LFO extended the lead the rest of the way.
Rome will host Southeast Whitfield on Thursday.
